OUR PURPOSE

Through #TEAMJALIL Meningitis Awareness Foundation Inc. donations are awarded to parents, guardians and other caregivers to help provide assistance with airfare, meals, lodging, and other basic necessities, while the child is in a critical care facility or home.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the #TEAMJALIL Meningitis Awareness Foundation Inc. is to assist families who are suddenly challenged with any form of the various types of meningitis and/or other seriously debilitating illnesses gain access to emergency resources, and secure a lifeline that may not otherwise be accessible to needy families.

What is Meningitis?

Meningitis is an infection of the meninges (the membrane that covers the brain and the spinal cord).

It is most commonly classified as either Bacterial, Viral, or Fungal.

TYPES OF MENINGITIS

Bacterial Meningitis

Although rare, Bacterial Meningitis can be serious and life-threatening. It can be caused by several different bacteria including Neisseria meningitis (meningococcus) Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus), and in older patients with decreased immunity, Listeria monocytogenes. 1 in every 5 people that contract Bacterial Meningitis will have severe complications. Death occurs in 10-15%of all cases including those treated with antibiotics.

Viral Meningitis

viral meningitis is extremely hard on the body, but usually not life threatening and most patients make a full recovery. It can be triggered by a number of viruses including those associated with diarrhea. Viral Meningitis is less likely to cause brain damage.

Fungal Meningitis

It is less common and rare in healthy people. However, someone who has an impaired immune system such as a person with AIDS or Lupus is more likely to become infected with this form of meningitis.

However, some age groups have higher rates than others such as: Children under the age of 5, Teenagers and Young Adults ages 16-25, College students in dorms, Military recruits in barracks, People traveling to areas where Meningitis is more common.
